At 800 West Carson Street, a major affordable housing community is taking shape beside the rapidly expanding Harbor UCLA Medical Center. The development is led by Meta Housing Corp and occupies a long frontage just west of the 110, where older commercial properties once lined the corridor.
The project delivers 230 apartments within a seven story structure, offering one to four bedroom layouts intended for households earning between 30 and 70 percent of the area median income. The housing sits above a two level garage, allowing the full block to be used for residential and community serving functions rather than surface parking.

Design work by Y and M Architects centers on a series of internal courtyards and common rooms placed along the building’s length. Renderings show alternating dark and light facade treatments, deep balconies, and planted roof decks that frame views toward the medical campus. Large ground floor rooms are planned for resident programs and gatherings.
State and private financing support the construction effort, which carries a budget of about 112 million dollars. General contractor Milender White has been preparing the site and advancing structural work in anticipation of a 2026 opening.
The location places future residents within walking distance of clinics, bus lines, and new pedestrian improvements tied to Harbor UCLA’s multiyear modernization program. Nearby projects include West Carson Villas by PATH Ventures and a large mixed use proposal on South Vermont Avenue. As these pieces come together, the area is forming a cluster of housing options designed to support families, seniors, and workers who rely on the hospital and surrounding employment centers.
