Levels are rising at 100 South Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles. The project is entitled “The Grand,” and includes plans for two highrise buildings as well as a park. The privately-owned real estate firm behind the project is Related Companies, which is headquartered in New York and owns developments across the United States, as well as in Abu Dhabi and London.

One tower will be a 20 story hotel, entitled “Equinox,” which will contain 308 guest rooms. The other tower will be a 39 story apartment building, with 436 dwelling units, 89 of which will qualify as very low-income housing. Below, the shops at The Grand will span three levels of retail, with 71,000 square feet of bars, cafes, and dining. There will also be 21,486 square feet of landscape.

Two levels of basement parking will be below the residential and commercial space with room for 309 compact, 37 disabled, and 411 standard parking spots. There will also be 126 long-term bicycle parking spaces. In total, the project will be 45 stories high and have 949,206 square feet of floor. It will be 479.25 feet tall, 292.5 feet wide, 447.5 feet long.

The project was designed by Frank Gehry of Gehry Partners, who also designed the famous Walt Disney Concert Hall across the street. The initial permit valuation was $476 million. Residential leasing is planned to begin in 2022.

  1. Very conventional design for Frank Gehry. Overall this looks great and is a nice addition to downtown LA and compliment to his concert hall.
