After a year’s break, a new high-rise residential tower is pushing dirt at 732 South Figueroa Street in Downtown Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the development of a 42-story high apartment tower, replacing a surface parking lot on the site.
Johnson Fain is responsible for the design concepts. Real estate company Mitsui Fudosan America is the project developer.
Concrete podium can be seen at the site. Upon completion, the project will consist of a 42-story building featuring 438 apartments. The apartments will be offered as a mix of studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. A podium parking and approximately 7,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space will be also be a part of the project.
Renderings reveal a building rising to a height of 530 feet, designed in glass with embedded LEDs. Mitsui Fudosan is also required to encase the above-grade parking garage in the same type of glass wrapping the trunk of the tower. A landscaped amenity deck with a swimming pool will cap the podium.
At the time of its groundbreaking in mid-2020, completion of the 8th and Figueroa tower was expected within three years.
Besides housing, the project will also result in several off-site improvements, including the addition of a new mid-block crosswalk feeding into Figat7th.
The project site is located at the intersection of 8th Street & Figueroa Street, across the street from the Figat7th shopping center.
