A new hotel has been approved for 22729-22741 Pacific Coast Highway, in Malibu. The site currently hosts a closed gas station. It is located across the highway from “Billionaire’s Beach.” Norm Haynie is cited as the developer for the project, which has been in the works since at least 2016, in a city notorious for halting new construction.

The site is 1.2 acres in size. The design includes an existing 13,000 square foot office building with a 9,500 square foot parking garage. Plans call for the construction of a 9,800 square foot addition and 3,500 square feet of subterranean space on the adjacent parcel.

When completed, the hotel will have 39 rooms in total. Amenities will include an onsite guest restaurant,, rooftop deck, pool, and surface parking lot. The site will be improved with grading, retaining walls, landscaping and a new onsite wastewater treatment system.

Luis Tena is the architect behind the plan. It takes advantage of coastal views and the hilly landscape using a terraced form. Each guest room will have a partially landscaped, private balcony of at least 14 feet by 24 feet. The project has been titled “Sea View Hotel.”
