A new affordable housing project has possibly found its new construction site at 6621 Manchester Avenue in Westchester. The project proposal includes the development of affordable housing, replacing a shuttered fire station on the site.

The project site houses Fire Station 5 which closed down in 2006. Built in the 1950s, the closed down structure has remained vacant since 2006. Per a motion introduced recently by 11th District Councilmember Traci Park, the scope of the work includes the redevelopment of the former fire station with housing for seniors, families, veterans, or general workforce members.

Park’s motion, which has been referred to the Council’s Housing and Homelessness Committee for further consideration, calls for the City Administrative Officer, Chief Legislation Analyst, Housing Department, General Services Department, and Planning Department to initiate a review of the 6621 Manchester Avenue site, and issue a report back.

The property site sits less than a mile east of Lincoln Boulevard in Westchester and is located a short distance east of the Westchester Recreation Center
