A new affordable housing project is taking shape and form at 7220 Maie Avenue in Florence-Firestone, Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the construction of a new seven-story building offering retails space and 150+ residential units at affordable rates. The project replaced a car wash next Florence Station.
Meta Housing Corp is the project developer.
The project broke ground in March, and construction is in full swing to bring 160 apartment units and retail space into a seven-story building. Named The Metro @ Florence Apartments, the building will bring 160 units designed as a mix of studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom floor plans. The units will be available for individuals and households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area’s median income. Out of the total, 72 units will be reserved as permanent supportive housing.
Additionally, the mixed-use project will offer 12,300 square feet of landscaped open space for residents and 3,100 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Parking for 120 vehicles and 2,100 square feet of community and office space are also proposed as a part of the project. Onsite residential amenities include an outdoor courtyard and a rooftop deck.
The project received funding from various sources, including $51 million in bonds and additional financial support approved by Los Angeles County. The California Strategic Growth Council awarded $30.8 million for the project last year through the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities program, which will go toward the cost of on-site supportive services, laundry facilities, outdoor recreation areas, and the purchase of nine zero emission buses.
The mixed-use project will rise next to the A Line metro. The estimated construction completion date is not revealed yet.
