A new affordable housing project has been proposed for development at 570 North Normandie Avenue in East Hollywood, Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the development of a new six-story building offering 60 apartments as affordable housing options. Plans call for the demolition of an existing residences built in the 1920s.

Surco Holdings is the project developer. Kevin Tsai Architecture is responsible for the designs.

The developer received approval to redevelop the project site in 2022 to build a four-story residential building. Plans now call for the development of a six-story affordable housing project to be executed via the Mayor’s Executive Directive 1. The affordable housing complex will bring 60 units as a mix of studios and one-bedroom floor plans. No onsite parking has been proposed at this time.

While the previous application relied on Transit Oriented Communities incentives, the new application instead relies on the state density bonus to achieve a larger building envelope than would typically be allowed by zoning. The project is eligible for incentives due to plans to set reserve all of the proposed apartments for low- and moderate-income households.

The site is located south of the US-101 Freeway, a short walk south of Melrose Avenue.
