A new affordable housing project has reached completion at 5501 S Main Street in South Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the development of a new five-story building offering 57 affordable housing units and commercial space on the ground floor.
Highridge Costa Development and Western Community Housing are the project developers. Egan Simon Architecture is responsible for the designs.
The project brings a five-story structure featuring 56 apartments, designed as studios and two-bedroom floor plans. The units are reserved for unhoused veterans and families earning at or below 30 and 50 percent of the area’s median income level. The affordable housing complex also includes a single one-bedroom apartment for an on-site manager.
The complex also includes 1,500 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, reserved for a local non-profit organization or use as flex space by residents. The reserved space also offers offices for case managers, a terrace, a lobby, and a mural by local artist Kristine Campbell.
A construction completion ceremony was conducted last month.
