A new mixed-use apartment complex is under construction at 1537 West 8th Street in Westlake, Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the construction of a new six-story mixed-use building offering spaces for residential and retail spaces. The project replaced a set of small commercial structures on the site.
1535 8th, LLC is listed as the owner. GA Engineering is responsible for the designs.
The project broke ground in 2022. The scope work includes the construction of a six-story mixed-use building offering 43 apartments and ground-floor commercial space. The mixed-use will also offer a basement garage. The development is built to a larger scale than would normally be allowed by zoning rules in accordance with the Transit Oriented Communities guidelines. In exchange, a portion of the new apartments are to be set aside for rent as affordable housing.
The project site is located near 8th Street and Union Avenue.
