A new affordable housing complex is under construction taking shape and format at 2536 West 5th Street in Westlake, Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the development of a new seven-story building offering 65 affordable units. The project calls for the demolition of an existing on-site single-family home near MacArthur Park.
Jong Tae Kim of 2536 West 5th, LLC is listed as the project applicant and property owner. Kevin Tsai Architecture is responsible for the designs.
The scope of work includes the construction of a new seven-story building featuring 65 apartments. The units will be designed as a mix of studios and one-bedroom floor plans. No on-site parking has been proposed at this point.
Requested entitlements include density bonus incentives with the provisions of AB 2334 to permit a larger structure with more housing than otherwise allowed by zoning rules. All of the apartments are to be rented by low- and moderate-income households.
Renderings reveal a contemporary exterior designed in raked and smooth stucco, accented by wood panels. The seven-story will be capped by a rooftop amenity deck.
The project developers filed a new Executive Directive 1 application with the Department of City Planning. The project site is located two blocks north of MacArthur Park.
