Long Beach Community College District has released detailed plans for an on-campus student housing development at its Liberal Arts Campus in Long Beach, with the project advancing through design and early planning stages after formal environmental review filing. The development would replace a campus parking lot at the intersection of Clark Avenue and Lew Davis Street with residential facilities for college students.

The project, titled LAC New Student Housing, is described on the college’s official website as a multi-story housing complex designed to serve students attending Long Beach City College. According to the institutional project page, the planned development would include approximately 431 beds in a combination of studios and shared bedroom units, oriented toward supporting student residential needs.

Renderings and materials published by the district show a mid-rise residential building with contemporary façades and campus-oriented exterior spaces. The project page identifies Swinerton as the building architect and AC Martin as the general contractor, with Cordoba Corporation serving in a project management role.

The estimated budget for the housing complex is $127 million, funded through local capital measures including Measure LB and Measure AC. The college’s published schedule anticipates the start of construction in Fall 2026, with completion targeted for Fall 2028.

The student housing initiative follows the filing of a Notice of Exemption under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Class 32 In-Fill Development category for this site. The environmental notice confirms the project location on the southwest corner of Lew Davis Street and Clark Avenue and supports the district’s progression into final design and implementation phases.

The housing development is part of Long Beach City College’s broader strategy to expand on-campus amenities and support services. The Liberal Arts Campus, home to a range of academic and athletic facilities, would gain long-term residential infrastructure designed to serve full-time students and integrate with other campus enhancements planned or underway.
