A new affordable housing project is under construction at 1708 East 61st Street in Florence-Graham. The project proposal includes the construction of a four-story building on an empty lot next to the A Line.
Khal Khaireddin Architects and Tine Chee Landscape Studio are managing the design concept and construction of the project. RxLA is the developer invested in the project.
Named Aster, the apartment complex will house 56 apartments on an L-shaped parcel. The apartments will be offered as a mix of studios and one-bedroom units. On-site amenities are inclusive of a laundry facility, community rooms, a garden, management and support services. Outdoor decks are proposed on the third and fourth floors. An on-site parking space for seventeen vehicles is also proposed.

Renderings showcase a contemporary style low-rise building with a landscaped courtyard. The architecture style is expressed via a facade made of fiber cement panels and stucco.

The project will utilize density bonus incentives to achieve greater height and reductions to front and rear yard setback requirements.

The estimated date of project completion is December 2021. The property site is located half a mile south of the A Line’s Slauson station.
