A new supportive housing project has been unwrapped at 6714 S Main Street in Florence, Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the development of a four-story permanent housing complex offering 60 units.

The Coalition for Responsible Community Development is the project developer, in partnership with New Economics for Women and the Amity Foundation. QDG Architecture is responsible for the design concepts.

Named Marcella Gardens, the project will bring 60 apartments into a four-story edifice, including 59 affordable units and one manager’s unit. The residential units will be offered as a mix of studios and one-bedroom dwellings priced for households earning at or below 30 and 50 percent of the area’s median income. Monthly rents are expected to range from $548 to $587 per month.

With a total budget of $32.4-million, Marcella Gardens has a per-unit cost of roughly $530,000. Funding sources include Measure HHH, Los Angeles County’s No Place Like Home program, and other government programs.

Marcella Gardens is one of two projects slated for the stretch between 67th and 68th Streets. CRCD and its partners are also building a smaller 52-unit apartment complex named Ruth Teague next door.

The project site is located on a block long stretch of Main Street and spans the east side of the street between 67th and 68th Streets.
