A new affordable housing project is taking shape and form at 10400 South San Pedro Street in Green Meadows. The project proposal includes the construction of a five-story building offering spaces for 47 residential units at affordable rates. The project site is the site of Southside Bethel Baptist Church.

Hermosa Beach-based firm RMG Housing is the project developer. City records list Brian Noteware as the architect for the project.

Construction has been in its full swing since earlier this year for a permanent supportive housing complex. Plans call for the construction of a five-story building featuring 47 one-bedroom apartments. Renderings reveal a contemporary low-rise structure. The building will also include space for Southside Bethel Baptist Church at street level.

Southside Bethel Baptist Church, which has been located at the intersection of 104th and San Pedro Streets for more than 60 years, will be repurposed in its use. The new development will incorporate a 1,700-square-foot community room that will double as a sanctuary for church services and other events.

The new affordable housing complex got a shot in the arm last year, SDS Capital Group an $8-million loan to go toward development costs. SDS has invested heavily in RMG’s projects, and has raised $150 million for similar supportive housing developments. That private-sector financing is unique in that it requests per-unit development costs to not exceed $200,000 – far below the average price tag for most subsidized developments.
The estimated completion date and market availability have not been announced yet.
