Nearly 20 months after the last update, a supportive housing project is under construction, taking shape and form at 5501-5513 South Main Street in South Park, Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the development of a five-story supportive housing complex. The project replaced an auto repair shop on the site.
Gardena-based Highridge Costa Development is the project developer. Egan Simon Architecture is responsible for the designs.
Since our last coverage, construction work can be seen for a five-story building that will bring 57 residential units. The units are proposed to be designed as a mix of 56 supportive housing units and one manager’s apartment.
Project approvals include density bonus incentives permitting allowing for a larger structure than would normally be permitted by zoning rules. The apartments are to be set aside for households earning between 30 and 50 percent of the area’s median income level, making them eligible for the bonuses.
Renderings reveal a contemporary low-rise structure. The supportive housing complex will also feature a courtyard facing 55th Street to the north and terrace decks on its upper floors.
The project site sits at the southwest corner of the intersection of 55th & Main Street.
