A new mixed-use project has been proposed for development at 800 North Main Street in Chinatown, Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the construction of two new mixed-use buildings. If approved, the project will replace a parking lot on the site.
California Endowment and Linc Housing Corp are the project developers. Studio One Eleven is responsible for the designs.
The scope of work includes two buildings rising seven and four stories high. The first phase, “East Phase”, will bring a seven-story structure featuring 124 one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments and 25,473 square feet of commercial space on its two floors. “West Phase” will bring a two-to-four-story building offering 39,000 square feet of commercial space.
Additional occupants include a community care facility with room for skill training, workforce development, healthcare services, art therapy, event space, and neighborhood-serving retail. The new construction would be connected to the existing California Endowment campus through a pedestrian pathway cutting through the campus.
The project is proposed to cater exclusively to lower-income households.
Renderings reveal a palette of light and neutral colors. Construction materials include stone, masonry, concrete, and plaster. The building exteriors feature recessed or punched windows. Terraces and balconies provide private outdoor space for residents and visual interest, as stated in a design summary.
The project site is located north of Union Station in Chinatown. A project application was submitted earlier this week. The estimated construction timeline has not been announced yet.
