A new affordable housing project has completed construction and is now ready for occupancy at 1999 West 3rd Street in Westlake. The project proposal included the development of a new seven-story building offering 137 units at affordable rates.

Jonathan Rose Companies and Wakeland Housing & Development are the project developers. Brooks + Scarpa is responsible for the designs. Tina Chee Landscape Studio is the landscape architect. Argent/Graham is the project consultant.

Earlier this month, the developers celebrated the inauguration of the new seven-story affordable housing complex. Named 1999, the project offers 137 apartments along with common areas including a fitness studio, a yoga room, and a central atrium. The new housing is to be reserved for renters earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area’s median income level.

Additionally, the housing complex yields 10,000 square feet of community space. The building was constructed using non-toxic materials and includes fresh air intake systems for units to ensure higher air quality to keep residents healthy and safe.

In addition to being an all-electric building, 1999 also incorporates low-flow plumbing fixtures, native planting, and a greywater-ready irrigation system.
