A new low-rise residential building is moving forward at 4424 South Slauson Avenue in Del Rey, where a contemporary four-story structure designed with brick cladding and recessed balconies will replace an existing commercial parcel near the intersection with Culver Boulevard. The project introduces a modest-scale multifamily development that emphasizes street-facing architectural detail and landscaped frontage.
The development is being pursued by Category, a Los Angeles-based real estate firm that has completed multiple residential projects in the Del Rey area.

Plans call for the construction of 34 apartments arranged across four residential levels above a subterranean parking garage with space for 49 vehicles. The building footprint is organized to place residential units along the street frontage while vehicular access is directed toward the below-grade parking structure.
Architectural renderings depict a contemporary façade composed primarily of light-toned brick, punctuated by vertically proportioned windows and arched openings that frame select residential units. Private balconies are incorporated into several upper-floor apartments, while landscaped planters and street trees create a transitional edge between the building and the public sidewalk.
The development received approval through the use of State Density Bonus incentives, allowing the project to exceed base zoning limits in exchange for the inclusion of three apartments reserved for very low-income households.
Located within the Del Rey neighborhood just west of Culver Boulevard, the project adds new housing to an area that has seen gradual residential infill in recent years. Category has previously completed a smaller apartment building near Ballona Creek, and the firm is also pursuing additional mixed-use developments elsewhere in Los Angeles.
