Construction Underway At 1623 West Manchester Avenue In Los Angeles

A new residential project is taking shape and form at its project site at 1623 W Manchester Avenue in the Manchester Square neighborhood in Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the construction of a five-story building offering spaces for residential and commercial uses, along with onsite parking. The project replaces Southside Church’s parking lot.

John Stanley, Inc in partnership with Innovative Housing Opportunities are the project developers. BSB Design is responsible for the designs.

The project broke ground last year, and construction is now in full swing for a new affordable housing complex. The project site is located close to the Southside Church of Christ.

The project site is a parcel spanning an area of 0.82-acres. Named Serenity Apartments, the project will be a five-story building featuring 50 apartments. The units are designed as a mix of studios and one-bedroom apartments. The five-story will also have commercial space spanning an area of 1,600 square feet and a two-level 100-car podium garage. That garage will also include replacement parking for Southside Church.

All of the apartments will be reserved for renters aged 55 years up. Residents of the property will be restricted to those with annual incomes at or below 60 percent of the Los Angeles County area’s median income.

Renderings reveal a contemporary low-rise structure clad in stucco. In addition to housing, plans show that the building will feature a laundry facility, a club room, and a courtyard on its third floor. The supportive housing project received $35M in funds. At the time of its groundbreaking, completion of Serenity was expected in 2024.
