Construction for the long-delayed Torrence Transit Center is in full swing in Los Angeles. The project proposal includes a new transit hub that will serve as the western terminus of Metro’s C (Green) Line. It will eventually connect to the Metro rail network through a planned extension of the C Line from its current terminus in Redondo Beach.

Frank Webb Architects is managing the design concepts and construction.

Formally named Torrance Transit Park and Ride Regional Terminal, the project will rise from a triangular parcel located near the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Del Amo Boulevard. The transit hub will span an area of 15 acres and will include a new terminal building with space for retail, ticket sale, and real-time travel information. Eight bus berths, layover space, passenger information kiosks, and vehicle drop-off zones will be designed on the site. A parking lot with a capacity of 250 cars and bicycle storage is also planned.

The transit center broke ground in 2018 but faced constant delays. Construction is now anticipated to be completed in late 2021.

The property site is located adjacent to a lumber yard and oil refineries to the north and an industrial park to the east.
