A new residential project has completed its wood framing at 1035 South Berendo Street in Pico-Union, Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the development of a six-story residential building featuring supportive housing units.
West Hollywood Community Housing Corp. (WHCHC) is the project developer. The project was funded through Measure HHH. Urban Architecture Lab is responsible for the design concepts.
Named Berendo Sage, the project consists of a six-story building that will feature 42 apartments. The apartments are offered as a mix of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments. Plans call for a mix of permanent supportive housing and general income-restricted apartments.
Renderings reveal a contemporary podium-type building with vertical circulation areas along the exterior to preserve more space for housing. The project includes a rooftop community room, a laundry facility, and offices for on-site service providers.
According to a staff report to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, the approximately $26.3-million project will offer rents ranging between $548 and $1,357 per month. Completion of the project is expected in Summer 2022. Funding for Berendo Sage comes from a variety of sources, including tax credit financing and a more than $6-million allocation through Proposition HHH. The project site is a vacant city-owned site just south of Olympic Boulevard.
