A new supportive housing complex is taking shape and form at 283 West Imperial Highway in Broadway-Manchester, Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the development of supporting housing untis made of prefabricated modular units.
The project is a joint venture between Clifford Beers Housing and American Family Housing. Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects (LOHA) is responsible for the design concepts.
Named Isla Intersections Supportive Housing, the project has been under construction for the past seven months. The apartment complex is rising from a triangle-shaped parcel at the intersection of Broadway and Imperial Highway. Plans call for the development of a new five-story structure, featuring 53 studio apartments and 900 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.
The Isla project arranges the modular units to create terrace decks for residents. Athens Way, a road which flanks the western perimeter of the site, is to be converted into a shared street called the Annenberg Paseo. The corridor, where pedestrians, motorists, and cyclists will share the same right-of-way, is being named for the Annenberg Foundation, which provided funding for the project.
The more than $22-million apartment complex will offer apartments to formerly homeless persons earning from 30 to 40 percent of the area median income.
