Plans have been filed for a new laboratory-focused development at 1364 East Green Street in Pasadena, where Trammell Crow Company proposes redeveloping a long-standing surface parking lot near the California Institute of Technology campus. The project is scheduled for preliminary consideration by the Pasadena Design Commission.
According to submitted materials, the proposal calls for a three- to four-story building containing approximately 93,539 square feet of multi-tenant office and laboratory space. The structure would be supported by a three-level subterranean parking garage with capacity for 280 vehicles. The property has been used as a surface parking facility since the 1990s and is owned by Caltech.
Architectural plans prepared by Gensler depict a low-rise structure with a rectilinear massing and a consistent exterior grid. The building envelope features large vertical window bays framed by earth-toned materials, with upper-level roof areas incorporating landscaped elements. The building mass steps down on multiple sides of the site, while maintaining a taller frontage along Green Street.
The site is located at the intersection of East Green Street and Holliston Avenue, immediately south of Del Mar Boulevard. The project site sits adjacent to St. Philip the Apostle Church and within proximity to Pasadena City College, placing it within a mixed institutional and academic context near the eastern edge of the Caltech campus.
If approved, the project would join other recent Caltech-affiliated developments in Pasadena, including the Ginsburg Center for Quantum Precision Measurement and the Resnick Sustainability Center, both of which represent ongoing expansion of research and academic facilities in the area.
