Construction is progressing at 501 East 5th Street in Downtown Los Angeles, where a new supportive housing development is rising adjacent to the Downtown Women’s Center campus. The project replaces a previously utilized surface lot with a multi-story residential structure designed to expand housing and service capacity in the surrounding area.
The development is being undertaken by Daylight Community Development in collaboration with GTM Holdings. Plans call for a seven-story building containing 97 supportive housing units, along with a single manager’s residence. The residential program is intended for individuals earning between 30 and 50 percent of area median income, aligning the project with deeply targeted affordability levels.

In addition to housing, the building incorporates dedicated space for on-site supportive services. These areas are integrated into the lower floors to support resident needs through proximity and accessibility. The inclusion of program space reflects the operational model associated with permanent supportive housing developments.
Design work is being led by KFA Architecture in association with Gensler. The building is organized above a concrete podium, with upper levels arranged to introduce open areas within the overall massing. This configuration allows for increased access to light and air within the project while maintaining a consistent street-facing edge.

Recent construction activity shows wood framing beginning to take shape above the podium structure, indicating vertical progress on the residential levels. The project is scheduled for completion in Fall 2027.
Once finished, the development will contribute additional supportive housing capacity within Downtown Los Angeles, expanding the scale of services and residential units associated with the Downtown Women’s Center’s broader operations.
