Development permits have been submitted seeking the approval of demolishing the existing industrial-use structures to construct a new commercial-use building at 1639 9th Street, Santa Monica. The project proposal includes constructing a cafe with dog lounges and an artist studio intended to offer pet rescue services and recreational spaces for pets and people alike. Quezada Architecture is managing the design concepts and construction of the commercial project.
The Happy Dog Project is a new Los Angeles-based non-profit looking to reinvent the dog and pet rescue process. Their core mission is to rescue dogs from kill shelters and train and socialize the animals to increase their chances of successful family placement. Parking, open spaces and restaurant spaces are also included in the project.
The project site comprises three lots, two of which span over an area of 7,500 square feet and the third one over 14,000 square feet. The facility will include a café, an artist’s studio, and dog lounges where people can come and relax with the dogs and give them some much-deserved love and attention. The Happy Dog lounge is a two-story building with a proposed facade height of thirty-two feet. The artist’s studio is a single-story studio with an elevation of sixteen feet.
The estimated date of completion and launch is not revealed yet.
