A long underused surface parking lot in Downtown Glendale could soon be replaced by a contemporary mixed-use building. Plans reviewed by the city’s Design Review Board detail a six-story project at 340 North Central Avenue, combining 20 apartments, 960 square feet of ground-floor retail, and subterranean parking for 21 vehicles.

The development is led by 340 Central Properties, LLC. Domus Design is responsible for architecture.

The project team envisions a clean-lined podium structure with stepped terraces and dual rooftop amenity decks. Renderings show a balanced palette of light and dark materials; wood-toned cladding, smooth plaster, and metal paneling. The design helps break down the massing along the narrow street frontage.

The design introduces transparency and texture at the pedestrian level, with recessed glazing, canopies, and defined retail entries to animate Central Avenue. A vertical tower element anchors the corner while the building’s upper stories are modulated with horizontal balcony lines that frame the façade in a disciplined rhythm.

The estimated construction timeline has not been revealed yet.
