A new development is in the works in La Verne. It could bring rare, low income, detached, single-family housing to the area. The current working title is “The Walnut Street Site,” located at 1874-1876 Walnut Street by developer Brandywine Homes. The proposal is part of a larger project that would include 50 additional townhomes on Fruit Tree Street.
The proposed lot is currently has no trees or property on the site. It is made of several parcels owned by the city, next to the Metrolink Railroad. The site is within one‐half mile of the proposed La Verne Station of the Foothill Gold Line, which is expected to be completed from Glendora to Pomona by 2025, and operate shortly thereafter.
Each unit would have a private front and back yard. Applications would be limited to moderate-income households. There would be a density bonus of one unit, per the Walnut Street Specific Plan and the State density bonus law, for making the units low income.
LSA Architecture is behind the design. There would be 8 homes in total, reaching a height of 27 feet. Residents could move in as early as 2023 if plans are met with approval.
