Barclay Hotel, one of the oldest hotels in Los Angeles, is undergoing an adaptive revamp at 103 West 4th Street in Downtown, Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the renovation of the existing hotel building to offer residential units reserved at affordable rates.

Healthy Housing Foundation, a subsidiary of AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is the new owner, planning to retain the building as low-income housing. The Barclay, designed by Morgan and Walls, was completed in 1897.

The project aims to renovate the 158-unit building as housing for extremely low-income and formerly unhoused people. Barclay was considered the first hotel in the city to provide electricity and telephone service to each of its rooms. Three years, the single-room-occupancy hotel was revamped as a boutique hotel.

The proposed redevelopment is under review and a project completion timeline has not been announced yet.
