A commercial building will soon be replaced to take the shape of an office complex at 843 North Spring Street in Chinatown, Los Angeles. Santa Monica-based developer Redcar Properties successfully broke ground on a project consisting of four new levels atop a single-story building to serve as an office complex. Lever Architecture is managing the design concept and construction. The project is one of the first to use cross-laminated timber as a feature of both the design and the tenant experience.
The office project will occupy a total space of 120,000 square feet, showcasing offices for rent. The building will also house retail space of 7,000 square feet on the ground floor. Subterranean parking will also be constructed and will be able to offer parking spaces for approximately 141 vehicles. The building will rise to a height of five stories.
The building’s architecture style is expressed in mass timber construction. The facade will be rendered in a steel frame with cross-laminated timber floors.
The property site is located across the street from Chinatown Station. The estimated date of project completion has not been announced yet.
