Framing is starting to rise at 200 Washington Boulevard, in Historic South-Central, Los Angeles. It will bring various levels of low-income housing to the area, as well as retail space. AMCAL is behind the development in partnership with Coalition for Responsible Community Development (CRCD), a local community-based nonprofit. They have entitled it “La Prensa Libre Apartments.”

The building will be four stories high with 134,600 square feet of floor area. It will be 51 feet tall, 269 feet long, and 171 feet wide. Inside, there will be 105 apartments on the upper floors; ten will be in the extremely low-income tier, seven very in low income, and five in low income. There will be 41 one-bedroom, 34 two-bedroom, and 28 three-bedroom layouts plus an additional two two-bedroom units set aside for on-site managers.

The ground floor will contain office and residential space. CRCD will have a workforce development center and café on that floor that will be open to the public and serve the local community. There will be one basement level. The inside will contain five compact, four disabled, and 67 standard parking spaces, and 82 long-term and 13 short-term bicycle parking spaces.

VTBS Architects designed the project. The development will include 25 units set aside for transition-age youth between the ages of 18-24 earning up to 30% of AMI, which will have project-based vouchers from the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) and case management services from CRCD. The site is expected to open in 2022.
