LAX has moved up in ranking from the fifteenth busiest to the fifth busiest airport in the world, according to recent preliminary figures released by Airports Council International (ACI) World. Usage increased 67% compared with 2020. In 2021 a total of 48,007,284 passengers used LAX.
LAX was the fifteenth busiest during the height of the pandemic in 2020. Pre Pandemic, a record 88.1 million passengers used LAX in 2019. It was ranked number three in the world, and number two in the United States at that time, for total passenger traffic.
Justin Erbacci, Chief Executive Officer, Los Angeles World Airports, recently stated “LAX continues to welcome more and more people back through its doors, and we expect to continue this rise in passenger numbers as international and business travel increase this year.” Preparation for a travel resurgence at the airpot has included new terminals, safer and healthier facilities, advanced amenities such as smart parking and touchless ID checks. There has been additional air service to more parts of the U.S. and the world.
The airport is adding more staff to support the increased demand at facilities. A job fair is being held today to from 9 a.m. to noon at the Flight Path Museum, located at 6661 W. Imperial Highway. Over 350 jobs at LAX will be available.
