A new affordable housing project has broken ground at its site at 112 South 6th Street in Montebello. The project proposal includes the construction of a new four-story affordable housing complex, offering spaces for residential use, onsite amenities, and resident services.
Cesar Chavez Foundation is the project developer. GGA is responsible for the designs.
Named Montebello-Vista de J.J. Rodriguez, the project broke ground early this week. The project will bring a four-story apartment complex offering 63 affordable and permanent supportive housing units, available for rent for for survivors of domestic violence.

Besides residential spaces, the complex will include a Si Se Puede Learning Center, the Chavez foundation’s afterschool program for young residents. Onsite amenities include a playground and a multi-use community space. The Chavez foundation and its partners will offer property management services and offer services to the residents. Downtown Women’s Center will offer social services for domestic violence survivors.
The project is a $46.7-million housing complex, located just south of Whittier Boulevard in Montebello. The apartment building is being funded through $2.71 million in tax credit proceeds, as well as a $4 million contribution from the City of Montebello and $2 million from the Los Angeles County affordable housing trust fund. Other funding sources include the San Gabriel Valley Regional Housing Trust, the California Department of Housing and Community Development, and a permanent loan through City National Bank.
