A new affordable housing project has been approved for development at 400 Centinela Avenue in Inglewood, Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the construction of a building offering residential units and space for the Social Justice Learning Institute.

Venice Community Housing and the Social Justice Learning Institute (SJLI) are listed as the project developers. The Architects Collective and Aero Collective are working together on the designs.

Named Sankofa Place, the scope of work includes the construction of 120 homes and space for the Social Justice Learning Institute. Plans call for the construction of 120 residential units designed as mix of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom floor plans. The units will be reserved for formerly unhoused individuals and households earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area’s median income.

Los Angeles County approved $65M in funding for the project. An outdoor courtyard and a garden will be the landscaped open areas. The building showcases a two-story brick colonnade and a rooftop crown.

The project site is located toward north of Florence Avenue in Inglewood.
