A new workforce housing development may soon come to 315 North Pasadena Avenue. Th project proposal includes the development of a new residential community offering workforce housing at the campus of Roosevelt Elementary School.
The Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education voted to move forward with entitlements for the project. The project was in the planning stages since 2021. SVA Architects is responsible for the designs.
The scope of work includes the development of 115 apartments and townhomes planned for Roosevelt Elementary School campus. Plans call for the construction of multiple low-rise structures. Additionally, parking for 211 vehicles will also be provided.
Renderings showcase housing structures rising up to three stories in the Spanish Revival style. The townhomes and apartments will be arranged along internal driveways and green spaces. The housing project will also feature a community building.
The apartments are proposed to cater to school district employees, and be designed as a mix of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, three-bedroom, and four-bedroom floor plans. Rents are anticipated to start at $600 per month for a 700-square-foot one-bedroom unit and go up to $3,500 per month for a 1,500-square-foot four-bedroom dwelling.
The school district is seeking streamlined approvals through SB 35, and therefore, at least 50 percent of the homes are required to be offered as affordable to lower-income households.
The anticipated approval timeline for the project is around six months. The project site is located toward north of the 134 Freeway and Walnut Street.
