Construction activity is nearing completion at 707–721 North Alvarado Street in Echo Park, where a new permanent supportive housing development from SRO Housing Corporation is rising along a prominent neighborhood corridor. The project, known as Alvarado Kent, replaces a formerly underutilized site with purpose-built affordable housing designed to serve residents with the greatest housing needs.

The six-story development will deliver a total of 81 apartments, the vast majority configured as studio units reserved for low-income and formerly homeless individuals. Ground-level parking is provided for 32 vehicles, while the residential program is supported by a range of on-site amenities, including a community kitchen, resident lounge, computer room, laundry facilities, and dedicated space for supportive services.

Architectural design for the project is led by Egan Simon Architecture. Plans show a podium-style structure articulated with a white and blue exterior palette, punctuated by varied window openings and multiple outdoor decks integrated throughout the building mass. Landscaping and streetscape improvements frame the Alvarado Street frontage, reinforcing a pedestrian-oriented edge as the project transitions toward completion.

According to project materials, Alvarado Kent is intended to serve individuals experiencing chronic homelessness, including residents with mental health challenges and qualifying homeless veterans, as well as other low-income households earning up to 60 percent of area median income. Supportive services provided on site are structured to promote long-term housing stability and resident well-being.

As construction wraps up, the Alvarado Kent development will add a significant new source of permanent supportive housing in Echo Park, contributing to the broader network of affordable housing projects delivered by SRO Housing Corporation across central Los Angeles. Once occupied, the project will bring new residents and services to the Alvarado Street corridor while advancing the city’s ongoing efforts to address homelessness through housing-first solutions.
