The long-proposed Armenian American Museum will be officially moving forward with its construction after a ceremonial groundbreaking on July 11, 2021. The proposed project is located in Downtown Glendale.
Alajajian Marcoosi Architects is managing the design concepts and construction.
The proposed development will be a two-story structure spanning an area of 50,800 square feet. Single-level parking is proposed at the basement level. The cultural site will feature a lobby, an auditorium, a learning center, administrative offices at the street level. The building’s second floor will be dedicated to temporary and permanent exhibition galleries.
Renderings reveal a facade modeled after the rock formations in the Armenian Highlands. The museum will showcase interactive presentations and displays of cultural artifacts.
The museum has approximately $23 million in funding through private donations as well as state and local funding.
Planned for more than seven years, the museum will rise at the southwest corner of Glendale Central Park. Construction will serve as a first step in the planned $18.5-million revamp of Central Park.
