A new apartment complex has been planned for Camino Ruiz and Verdugo Way, in Camarillo. Camino Ruiz LLC is listed as the developer. Twenty very low-income affordable units will be included, with seven studios units, seven one bedroom units, and six two bedroom units. An additional twenty moderate-income affordable units will be provided with seven studios units, seven one bedroom units, and six two bedroom units.

Two buildings on the site used to be occupied by Unisys, as support services for military operations at Port Hueneme, until the mid-1990’s. Then it became a call center for Anthem/Blue Cross occupied the site until 2012. The buildings became vacant and were then demolished in 2018. The lot is roughly rectangular and 14.17-acres.

Plans call for a 385-unit rental apartment complex comprised of seven three story and seven four-story buildings. The three-story buildings will be 41 feet tall and the four story buildings will be 50 feet tall. The four-story buildings will all be located in the interior of the site. All of the units will be rentals, with a mix of 49 studio, 203 one-bedroom, and 133 two-bedroom layouts. Five floor plans will range in size from 600 square feet to 1,000 square feet. 787 parking spaces will be provided,193 garage, 297 covered, 56 apron, and 241 open.

KTGY Architecture and Planning are behind the design, a modern interpretation of the Mediterranean and Monterey styles. Detailing will feature brick, stucco, and concrete s-tile roofs, on the varied massing of the buildings. Amenities will include a tot-lot, a community center with a pool and gym, a dog park, a 27,000 square foot internal park with bocce ball courts seating areas, BBQs, open grass areas, a walking/jogging path around the perimeter of the site for residents and the public, a Village Park along Verdugo Way and Camino Ruiz with shade structures and public art, and sidewalks along Verdugo Way and Camino Ruiz where no sidewalks currently exist.
