Ground is moving on the Parklands Site in Ventura. The region, bordered by Wells Road and Telegraph Road, has been set aside for largely residential use. Parklands Apartments were recently completed nearby, across the barranca that divides the property. The rest of the lot remains to be fully developed by Shea Homes.
The larger undeveloped section will be broken down into three additional communities, each with its own distinct characteristics. They have been tentatively titled the Barranca Community, the Central Park Community, and the Southwest Community. They will be grouped around a central clubhouse and recreation area.
A bridge over the barranca will connect the newer apartments to those already developed. The Barranca Community will be made of townhouses. The south of the Barranca will have a ‘bungalow court’ housing niche, a revival of a pre-war Southern California neighborhood with a common linear garden, creating a semi-private vehicular-free frontal communal space.
The Central Park Community will be flanked by streets on three sides and have a variety of architectural types. There will be one and one-half story houses on generously-sized lots. Thirteen new large detached homes will share the common boundary with the 18 existing Linden Drive single-family houses. The Southwest Community will be built around several neighborhood parks, including a tot-lot and a pedestrian-only rosewalk.
