A new large-scale affordable housing project has broken ground at 14545 Lanark Street in Panorama City. The project proposal includes the development of affodable housing complexes featuring studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments.

Clifford Beers Housing is the project developer, who celebrated the opening of the new housing project. Perkins&Will is responsible for the design concepts.

Named Corazón del Valle, the project will consist of twin buildings featuring 180 residences. The units will be offered as a mix of studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments. The units will be reserved for formerly unhoused persons and low-income households. Once designed, the apartments will cater to single adults earning up to $12,400 per year or a family of four earning no more than $70,000 per year.

Renderings reveal a trio of amorphous five-story structures bisected by courtyards and breezeways. Per a news release from Clifford Beers Housing, the project will include a greywater system saving more than 70,000 gallons of potable water annually, as well as solar panels that will generate 22 percent of the property’s electricity.

In addition to housing, the project will also include case management services to be provided by San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, which will also operate a community clinic in the commercial space at the property’s ground floor.

Other participants in the project include Genesis LA, the Corporation for Supportive Housing, and general contractor Alpha Construction.
