New townhomes have been approved for 5489 Saviers Road, in Oxnard. JBGR Investments is the developer for the project. Four of the units will be low income housing. For incentives, there will be a reduction in the required front yard setback from 25 feet to 15 feet, and a reduction in the required interior yard space requirement of 30% to 16%.

The site was rezoned in 2008 from Single Family to General Commercial, and then an Affordable Housing overlay zoning designation was added to encourage construction of 100% affordable housing on the site. The lot is .91-acre. There will be 20 units in total, divided between four buildings. Each will be three stories tall, reaching about 35 feet in height.

Units will have 1,500 square feet of floor. The inside will have three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Bedrooms will range in size from 180 square feet to 124 square feet.

Mainstreet Architects are behind the design. Plans include a two car garage, a 130 square foot patio, and a 20 square foot balcony for each unit. Ten bicycle parking spaces will be provided on-site in the recreation area, along with a playground, BBQ, and picnic space. Sidewalk and landscaping improvements are proposed along Saviers Road and Courtland Street.
