A new affordable housing project is under construction taking shape and form at 8727 South Broadway in South Los Angeles. The project proposal included the development of a residential community offering apartments and townhomes.
Abode Communities and Neighborhood Housing Services of L.A. County are the project developers. John V. Mutlow Architects is responsible for the designs.
The project broke ground last years, and now the construction site can be seen developed with scaffolding and wood frame for the facade. The project site was an empty lot with an area of 2.7 acres.

Named The Manchester Urban Homes, the residential community will bring a total of 122 residences. The project will offer a four-story apartment building with a capacity of 76 units. There will be 46 townhomes within two-story buildings. The apartments will face Broadway and the townhomes will rise along the west edge of the site.
The residences will feature one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom floor plans, ranging from 633 to 1,176 square feet in size.
The project construction cost is estimated at $84 million. Funding for the project came through various sources including public funding streams and a $7-million fund from the City of Los Angeles in March 2023.
