Construction is underway on a 53-unit affordable housing development at 5749 South Brynhurst Avenue in Hyde Park. HVN Development is developing the four-story project, with Stockton Architects responsible for the design and Greython Construction serving as general contractor. The approximately 37,318-square-foot building is rising on a 0.32-acre site previously occupied by residential structures.
The development will contain 52 income-restricted apartments and one manager’s unit. Its residential mix includes four one-bedroom, 38 two-bedroom, and 11 three-bedroom homes, giving larger households a significant share of the building’s units. The affordable apartments are intended for households earning between 30 and 80 percent of area median income.
No on-site automobile parking is planned. Instead, the building dedicates the property primarily to housing and resident spaces. HVN’s current leasing information identifies the project as Haven on Brynhurst North and lists an elevator and on-site laundry among the building amenities.
The rendering shows a compact four-story building with alternating gray and white siding, black rooflines, and a mix of horizontal and vertical facade patterns. White trim frames the windows, while several openings are accented by dark shutters. A taller vertical section marks the main entrance, which is covered by a small pitched canopy. The facade is broken into several sections rather than reading as one continuous wall, giving the relatively wide building a more residential scale.
Greython Construction describes the project as a ground-up development incorporating new utilities, hardscape, and landscaping alongside the residential construction. The builder announced a 16-month construction schedule when work began, while state housing documents identify the development as part of HVN’s broader affordable housing program in Los Angeles.
