A new under-construction affordable housing project has reached the finish line at 4161-4169 Whittier Boulevard in East Los Angeles. The project proposal includes the construction of a three-story structure with residences and retail space.
Local developer Meta Housing Corp is the project developer. Gonzalez Goodale Architects is managing the design concepts and construction.
Named La Paz Apartments, the affordable housing consists of a three-story structure that will offer 42 apartments. Retail space spanning an area of 1,161 square feet is designed on the ground floor. The apartments will come in a mix of studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom dwellings priced for households earning no more than 35 percent of the area’s median income. Rents will range from $509 for a studio unit to $654 for a two-bedroom apartment.
The $23.8-million project broke ground in mid-2020. The property site is located at the northwest corner of Whittier Boulevard and Downey Avenue, and the apartments would sit one block east of another affordable housing project under construction.
