Work is under way at West Warner Street, in Ventura. The expanded planned community, “Westview Village,” will bring fifty new senior housing units, as the third phase of four. The project includes the redevelopment of 180 existing public housing units for a new neighborhood of 286 affordable rental apartments for families and seniors, 34 for-sale townhomes, and 4 community buildings. The Housing Authority of the City of Ventura and BRIDGE Housing are behind the project.
The site has been formed into 11 blocks that take up a 20 acre site. The community buildings will include a senior center and an early childhood development center. The senior building will have a community hub with meeting facilities, educational rooms, property management offices, senior activity room, and a roof-top garden.
Resident-serving outdoor spaces will include a community amphitheater, an outdoor classroom space and a large community gardening program for on-site food production, events, and education. Proposed exploratory play features will cater to tot play (ages 2-5), and child play (ages 5-12). Flexible turf play areas and sports courts will facilitate both active play and passive recreation.
Pacific Coast Land Design, along with project lead RNT Architects and Mainstreet Architects and Planners are behind the design of the site. The project as a whole aims to achieve LEED Neighborhood Development and each building is expected to meet LEED Platinum certification. This will include architectural strategies, in addition to a variety of site and landscape strategies, to achieve low-impact development, meeting the needs of the residents.
