A new mixed use building has been approved for 241 West 2nd Street, in Oxnard. It will serve as a homeless shelter on the ground floor, and have 56 affordable units on the upper floors. The project is a collaboration between the City of Oxnard, Community Development Partners, and Mercy House.

The lot size is nearly half an acre and currently contains a commercial building and some surface parking. Plans call for a five story structure, with 60,200 square feet of floor. The homeless shelter will total 13,100 square feet and be open year round, with approximately 110 beds. It will include shower and laundry facilities, a meal program, pet accommodations, housing navigation and case management services for homeless individuals in Oxnard.

The apartments will range between 540-700 square feet. They will all fall under the Lower Income tier of the affordable housing scale, serving those who ern 50%-80% of the area’s median income. A service and leasing center will also be on location.

There will only be ten parking spaces on site, one of which will be reserved for the homeless shelter. A private, 24-hour security service, will be provided. The Fire Department Administration and Police Department are located within walking distance, and other City services plan to be involved with the shelter. The shelter has been titled “Navigation Center,” while the apartments are referred to as “2nd and B.”
