A team of developers have joined together to construct a new affordable housing complex proposed at 456 West 9th Street in Downtown San Pedro. The project proposal includes the construction of a new six-story building offering spaces for affordable housing, commercial use, and onsite residential services.
Non-profits Linc Housing and National CORE are the project developers. RRM Design Group is the architect on the project.
A celebration was held in late October to inaugurate a new affordable housing project named for its address 456 West 9th Street. The project features 91 residential units set aside as affordable housing units and commercial space on the ground floor. The residences are designed as a mix of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom plans reserved for households earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area’s median income level. Commercial space on the ground floor spans 4,900 square feet.
Renderings reveal a modern podium-type building with onsite amenities such as a community room, a gym, play areas, a picnic terrace, and a community lawn. The apartments have received more than 4,300 pre-applications, per a news release from the developers.
The project received funding from HOME funds managed by the Los Angeles Housing Department, tax credit financing arranged through Raymond James, a construction loan from Bank of America, and a permanent loan by the California Community Reinvestment Corporation. The City of Los Angeles provided the land on which the project was built, formerly a city parking lot.
