A new affordable housing complex has recently opened up ay 425 South Towne Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles. The project proposal included the construction of a new seven-story building offering 175 apartments as affordable housing units.
FSY Architects is responsible for the designs.
The scope of work included the construction of a new seven-story building comprised of 175 units. Named Umeya Apartments, the units are designed as a mix of studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom floor plans, priced for low-, very low-, and extremely low-income households. Half of the apartments will also serve as permanent supportive housing, offering services to formerly unhoused residents. The complex will include approximately 13,000 square feet of space at the ground floor dedicated to community uses, retail, and service providers.
Renderings revealed a V-shaped foot print, featuring space for two courtyards at street level. Additionally, plans call for a new mural by Skid Row artist Showzart.
The project amenities will include a laundry room, community room, bicycle parking, support services spaces, and landscaped open space at the ground levels. Supportive services will be provided by LTSC Community Development Corporation
Out of the total units, 85 will be regular general affordable units selected via lottery. The lottery will be conducted for the 85 general affordable units, and the open interest period will be from January 01, 2025 to January 31, 2025. The lottery will be held February 14, 2025, and all selected applicants will be contacted at that time to schedule an appointment with Management.
